Sarah Bokaie, Principle N.N.E.B

Sarah Bokaie founded The Gardens Nursery School in 1987 at The Gardens Tennis Club on Wimbledon Park Road in Southfields.

Sarah holds an NNEB in Nursery Nursing and has worked in a variety of roles in childcare - as a nanny, a hospital play specialist and a nursery nurse in a special needs unit. After getting married in 1974, she went to live in Iran and opened one of the first nursery schools in the country so her first daughter, Leila, could learn and socialise with other children.

On her return to the UK in 1978, she set up several small businesses: Kids Kitchen (children’s birthday parties), Doctor in the House (doctor’s accommodation service) and Baby Bygones (second hand children’s clothes and equipment). It was when Sarah’s second daughter, Jemima, started school at St Michael’s in 1987 that she decided to start The Gardens Nursery.

Sarah opened a second nursery, The Park Gardens, in 1992 in time for her two year old son Benjamin to attend nursery there. In 1997 The Little Hall Gardens opened on the grid in Southfields and a fourth nursery, The Northcote Gardens, opened in Clapham 2009. These nurseries are no longer under Sarah’s ownership and no longer affiliated with The Gardens Childcare.

Sarah’s daughter Leila joined the company in 2009 having moved back to the UK from the USA.  Leila now heads the finance and admission side of the company.

The Gardens moved to its present premises in 2000. It provides care for over 85 children in a bright and innovative building, where Sarah and her team offer families and their children, including her own grandchildren, a safe and happy environment where they can enjoy learning through play.
